Brian Tyrrell
Tyrrell Chevrolet Company
Cheyenne, Wyoming
“Being able to help people that need it – from our customers to our employees – is most rewarding to me. I have always put people first.”
In 1983, Tyrrell started full-time in the dealership, gaining experience
in each department. “I have worked in every position from the ground up
and know what it takes to be successful, from the janitor to the general
manager,” Tyrrell said. “It takes hard work and determination.”
He earned a degree in automotive marketing at Northwood University in Cedar Hill, Texas, in 1991, and he attended the NADA Academy in 1992. After college, he was promoted to used car manager and then general manager of the Tyrrell’s Honda store.
“I learned from my grandfather and father and shared their passion for working toward a goal and for providing the best sales and service environment for our employees and customers,” he said.” Today, he owns both dealerships and his son Dallas has joined the family enterprise.
An active member of the Wyoming Automobile Dealers Association, Tyrrell has served as president from 2017 to 2019 and on the board of directors since 2011 (also from 2006 to 2010). “I helped get new legislation done on the franchise law this year, as well as warranty rules updated,” he said. “I also helped stop legislative changes to vehicle titling that would have hurt dealers in our state.”
Tyrrell added, “I was recognized by the governor of Wyoming in 2008 for introducing the Alive at 25 initiative to the state, which educates teen drivers on safety and helps prevent impaired driving.”
A member of the Kiwanis Club of Cheyenne and the City of Cheyenne Planning Commission, Tyrrell is committed to the betterment of his community. The organizations he supports include COMEA (Cheyenne shelter for men, women and children); Meals on Wheels; Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (funds conservation and hunting efforts); Cheyenne Animal Shelter; Boys & Girls Clubs of America; Boy Scouts of America; Girl Scouts; American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, as well as local schools, police and firefighters, to name a few.
In addition, Tyrrell hosts a pre-Thanksgiving dinner at the dealership on the Monday before the holiday to honor and serve first responders and local members of the military. “We are proud to have hosted this celebration for the past three years,” he said.
Tyrrell was nominated for the TIME Dealer of the Year award by Marsha Allen, executive vice president of the Wyoming Automobile Dealers Association. He and his wife, Peaches, have three children.
