It all started with the American phenomenon that is the Redneck Riviera. If you’re not familiar, the Redneck Riviera is often considered the everyman’s version of the French Riviera. It’s a stretch of white sand beaches along the Gulf Coast – but it’s also a state of mind. It’s wherever hard-working Americans go to kick-back and have a good time. It’s wherever you say it is.

John had the idea to build on this phenomenon and start selling apparel like ball caps and t-shirts – what would one day become his lifestyle brand, Redneck Riviera. But from the start, success didn’t come easy. Getting a trademark for Redneck Riviera was the first battle of many. He went back and forth with the trademarking office, unrelenting, and eventually won.

It’s not that John was up against any unusual odds. If you’re entrepreneur, or just a regular Joe trying to persevere, obstacles and hearing “no” as an answer come with the territory.

As John says, whether or not you succeed comes down to “absolute unwillingness to relent.” This goes for entrepreneurs, musicians, songwriters, and any hardworking American. It’s universal, which is why the experience of the Redneck Riviera brand has meaning beyond t-shirts or ball caps.
